Overcomplicated, literature review

Image
One of the first areas of research I conducted into futurology was reading and comprehending the findings and research of a contemporary futurist and scientist, Samuel Arbesman. His book Overcomplicated studies and examines our overcomplicated technological systems of past and the present in order to predict what the future will hold for us and our inventions. I picked the most relevant chapters to read, which would aid my research into understanding science and today technological systems.  Going form Machio Kakus quote in my earlier research,  'If you want to understand the future you have to understand Physics' Our technology is the fruits to our understanding and mastery of physics. In that same order I will work to understanding the physics behind our current technology and in turn this will aid the predictions of future technology to design for Childhoods End. By no surprise Arbesman's entire book was relevant and helpful. However I'm not going ...

Futurology

Futurology Prediction is difficult- particularly when it involves the future. - Mark Twain Dr Michio Kaku:  Mark Twain was famous for saying, "Everyone complains about the weather, but no one ever does anything about it."  Well obviously to control the weather you'd have to have super powers.  A simple thunderstorm has more energy than a hydrogen bomb, so to control the weather is very difficult.  The CIA tried it during the Vietnam War.  They tried to seed the clouds with crystals, iodide crystals that formed nuclei to form rain clouds to stimulate a monsoon season.  The CIA did not like the Vietcong and the Vietcong would operate in the jungles, so why not stop them in their tracks by seeding the clouds and creating an artificial monsoon?  Well that was a failure and it's very humbling knowing that many countries have tried to control the weather.  None of these harebrained schemes have actually worked.  However, now that ...

Authur C. Clarke

A bit about the author of Childhoods End, Authur C. Clarke.  My personal review of him and his work in general. From what I've read and heard others (from creatives through to scientists) speak of Clarke, he was  one of the most influential modern sci-fi futurists and a creative affluence within the sic-fi genre and the scientific community. His writings and ideas had profound effects for sci-fi and science. Leading to some of the most unprecedented perdictions and shockingly accurate visions of the future. He sourrounded himself in scientific circles, did diligent research and understood science. The result combinating in fantastical scientific theoretics, growned believable settings. Most importantly Clarke always educated his readers and make them ask the more theoretical and grander questions to science technology and mans place amongst the stars. From Clarke's messages I gathered a profound sense of seer in him, a some-what time travailing teacher. He wanted to...
